WordPress internals

Wordpress Logo

I’ve been playing around with some settings in the wordpress dashboard for this site. The first thing I’ve done is changed the permalink structure. Now, instead of the url for each post being http://www.jonjolly.com/?p=120 they are something more memorable such as http://www.jonjolly.com/2006/10/08/Wordpress-internals. This may mean that some links to old pages have been changed, so [...]

I’m so excited…

I’ve just come back from Slam, our youth group for 11-14′s and I’m so pleased at how well the programme is working! After the summer we changed a few things around to try and provide a better environment for the young people who attend. Specifically, we extended the small group time to give more weight [...]

Evaluation

The last two days I’ve been attending a conference by The Rank Foundation up in Lancashire. Although specifically for youth agencies supported by the Foundation, the focus was on evaluating the work that we do. In the youthwork field, it is widely established that it can be very difficult to effectively evaluate the impact that [...]

eBible

I found a link today for eBible, a free website with “live” searching of the Bible, commentaries and references. An Explanation

Since I decided to focus this blog on the field of youth work back at the weekend, many different links have started appearing in the sidebar to the right as I’ve found relevant resources. I use the excellent del.icio.us for all my bookmarks and have started tagging links with ‘youthwork‘ for all related pages (and [...]

Starting Out

This week I’ve got the pleasure of the wonderful Emily on work experience, so I was already thinking about training and introductions to youthwork when I got an email from Rosie asking to shadow me for a day. This promted me to try and find a good practical and theoretical framework to help explain Christian [...]

Focus

Whenever we have a team meeting for the church youth group, I constantly have to remind the leaders to focus their attention. This is somewhat difficult to achieve as there is around 18 leaders each week, all of whom want to socialise while I’m desperately trying to ascertain exactly which young person broke the light [...]

MySpace Muggings

The tables have turned… No longer is it safe to assume that as an adult you are safe in internet chatrooms as this story suggests. From the article: “A 22-year-old Florida man has been held up at gunpoint after going to meet an 18-year-old he made contact with on the MySpace network.According to reports, Ernest [...]

Wikipedia ate my hamster!

Well not quite, but it seems the online user-editable encyclopedia is having trouble with verifying its content!
