Athlete

Kirsty and I went to see Athlete last night at Komedia in Brighton. It was a small intimate gig and a few friends were also there, but the band created a great sound and enthusiastic response from the crowd. Showcasing a load of new material from the forthcoming album ‘Beyond the Neighbourhood’ alongside their most popular tunes from the last two LP’s, it was a great evening. I was most impressed with how they managed to reproduce some of the complicated electronic sounds from the recordings, live on stage while still rocking out. As a band they sounded really tight.

The new single ‘Hurricane’ is now streaming on their site, so go have a listen. It’s another well-crafted, sing-a-long tune with a distinctive guitar hook that gets you tapping along in the same vein as ‘Twenty Four Hours’.

41 Places

We’ve had a great weekend catching up with friends and chilling out. Part of our fun was heading over to Brighton to track down some of the creatively hidden exhibition 41 Places. From the site:

41 Places is a city-wide artwork of 41 true stories, installed in the place where they happened – stories of people who live, work and play in Brighton.

After wandering around for a couple of hours, we only managed to find around 13 (even using the map)!

Some people have made it a mission to find and photograph all 41. Check out the Flickr group to see the others we didn’t find!
