UkYouthOnline Reflections

DavePress
OK, so I just got back from the first ever UkYouthOnline UnConference and I have to say it was an excellent day! Organised by Tim Davies, around 70 people from various youth work, participation and technological backgrounds looked at the issues and opportunities of engaging with young people online. It was really exciting to see [...]

The Truth About Teen Girls

Here’s a great article from Time Magazine that goes beyond the media hype to look at the real reasons for a growing trend in ’sexy’ behaviour among teenage girls. From the article:
Like steak-house owners trying to raise vegetarians, we idealize youth and sexiness but recoil if our young want to be sexy. What has complicated [...]

Towards Youth Work 2.0

There’s lot of talk at the moment about the future of youth work. Marko’s been blogging extracts from his new book ‘Youth Ministry 3.0…‘ looking at how we’re missing the mark in [US] youth ministry, and what needs to change in order to more truly live into our calling as youth workers.
Over this side of [...]

Wedgie Proof Pants!

I just had to link to this great youtube video of some young inventors being interviewed. What better way to return to blogging?

Thanks to Marko for this gem.

London Ink

On our way home from the Blog Awards, Kirsty and I saw this great installation at London Victoria Station. It’s purpose is to promote the TV Show ‘London Ink’ on Discovery Real Time and the oversize sculpture features an original tattoo on the small of her back. Click here to view the full Flickr set.

I first heard of Mika sometime before Christmas when ‘Relax (Take It Easy)’ was played on the radio. I loved the song then but had little clue about the artist or indeed this album. I finally downloaded it this week after all the hype of the single ‘Grace Kelly’ staying at the top of the [...]

Street Gangs

You can tell I’m on a “study day” today because of the amount of blog posts!

There’s a good article on the rise of teenagers in street gangs on the BBC News Magazine.
“There’s a real power in it, especially if someone has a problem and you deal with it. The camaraderie is unbelievable and is [...]

Heart Attack Baby back from dead!

“A baby boy who was pronounced dead after a heart attack came back to life 30 minutes later as he lay in his grieving parents’ arms.”
There’s no mention of God or Christianity in the article, but it certainly looks like His handiwork to me!

Youth Worker Suspended

The BBC is running a story about a group of County Durham teenagers who were allegedly abandoned by their youth worker in the countryside at 9:30pm in the pouring rain after they were “misbehaving”. A worker has been suspended pending an enquiry.
They said they had been accused of misbehaving and were told to make their [...]
