Today sees the launch of the new CompassionArt album and accompanying book here in the UK (US readers have to wait until the new year!). Set up by some friends here in Littlehampton, “CompassionArt is a charity that joins the dots between art and poverty. It raises money to help breathe life into the poorest communities, restoring hope and igniting justice.”
This album is worth mentioning because of the different model it is using to raise money. The songs were a collaboration between 12 of the best-known Christian worship leaders and recording artists who all agreed to waive their rights to the tracks and hand over full-control to CompassionArt. This means that as well as having a top quality album, the artists will never receive money for their work and 100% of the profits will go towards those who most need it.
Everyone involved in these songs from writers to publishers, managers to the team at CCLI have waived all their rights and allowed CompassionArt to own the copyrights. This means that the more you sing these songs in Churches across the globe the more we can make a difference with the proceeds they will eventually generate over the coming years.
For more info on where the money goes, or to hear the songs and order the album, go to CompassionArt.tv.
