Let’s talk about Homosexuality

Rainbow Pride
The fantastic guys over at RETHINKING YOUTH MINISTRY have picked up on a blog post I wrote about Homosexuality and the Bible back in 2007.

When I wrote the original post (and used it in the youth group), I tried to remain neutral and not give any of my own opinions. In fact I opened with this statement.

Homosexuality and Christianity is a very emotive subject with people having wildly different views. Before we talk about our own opinions on gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transvestites, lets be clear that God loves all of these people and we should therefore love and respect them too (Jesus’ teachings on loving both our neighbours and our enemies makes this clear). Rude, offensive or homophobic comments are not acceptable under any circumstances.

As usual with these type of posts, it’s picking up some interest from people with very different views! There’s been a few comments already over on the RETHINKING site. I really loved this from one commentor:

glad you posted on this issue. i continue telling our students that homosexuality is probably going to be an issue they will have to make tough decisions about because the present generation “in charge” is either looking at the issue with a “black and white” lens or is ignoring it.

it ain’t going away. someone needs to infuse some grace into the conversation. how will the next generation address the pertinent facts? and, more importantly, how will the next generation serve, care for, love the real life human beings who are homosexual? that is the real issue. this isn’t just an “issue,” it’s about real life human beings created in the image of God…

Go have a look at my original article and see what you think. Disagree? Great, just be civil in the comment please! 🙂

Agree with the comments – something that i think we all need reminding of now and again.

And I also like the ad on the bottom of the google reader pane, for a gay singles dating website!
