My friends over at Pure Creative Arts have got themselves a great article in the Times Educational Supplement.
I met Tamsin and her team when working at Spring Harvest a few years ago and was really impressed with their creative approach to tackling issues of worth and self-esteem in young people through schools work in the Liverpool area.
Pure Work through music, theatre and educational workshops, in order to challenge them to think about how they see themselves, their relationships and wider influences on their lives. Where they suffer from low self-esteem and damaged relationships, Pure aims to help them see how positive change can come about
I was lucky enough to visit some schools with them last year and see the amazing production that they put on. It really impacted the young people who witnessed it and brought out some fantastic discussion in the workshops. From the article:
A lifestyle workshop focuses on the practicalities of healthy eating and exercise, and how these activities build positive self-image. And in the mirror workshop, everyone is handed a mirror and invited to describe what they see. Many responses are derogatory. They’re then given mirrors with a positive label – unique, beautiful, special – and asked to look at themselves again. This moves several to tears.
If you need a creative way of tackling these issues in your local schools, I strongly suggest giving Pure a call and booking them to come and deliver one of their productions.
