This week I’ve got the pleasure of the wonderful Emily on work experience, so I was already thinking about training and introductions to youthwork when I got an email from Rosie asking to shadow me for a day. This promted me to try and find a good practical and theoretical framework to help explain Christian youthwork to those interested in getting into the field.
Youthworkers tend to be naturally very good at doing things, so I’m trying to encourage my volunteers to read much more. Apart from the Bible (of course!) Youthwork Magazine is an excellent source of information for Christian youthworkers. But when it comes to online resources, one of the best places to start is the Informal Education Website (infed) and their explanation of the history of Christian youthwork, and the principles that underpin it. Take your time clicking around the site – it’s worth it.
If you find any other resources suitable for new youthworkers, let me know and I’ll add them up here.

And when Rosie is following you round, I’ll be found in Refresh all day drinking Coffee – or Coke looking all summery and chilled with my laptop. It’s such a tough life!
