Yesterday I was on a 1st Aid refresher course. There were 9 other people in the group – all of them women. When we got to learning baby resuscitation all of us were given a ‘training baby’ and then together we practised the 30 chest compressions, rhythmically pumping the baby’s chests. To help us keep time (100BPM) the instructor suggested we sing Nelly The Elephant as we went.
Halfway through, I stopped and looked up. All 9 women were totally engrossed in their task of gently pounding plastic babies, while cheerfully singing along to ‘Nelly’. The whole time there was this background hiss of air being squeezed in and out of small plastic mouths which only created a percussion to the song.
I have to go back next week…
